Review of Dog Breeding in Ireland: Key Issues and Recommendations | Fieldfisher 2024

1–2 minutes

Dog rescues and pounds are under serious pressure in dealing with surrenders and seizures of dogs, yet dogs continue to be bred, in an intensive manner across Ireland.

A review of the situation was prepared by Hannah Unger (Associate), Rory Ferguson (Director) and Dearbhla Walsh (Solicitor) of the Fieldfisher law firm and published in May 2024.

The team carried out a comprehensive review of Irish legislation, international law and best practice.

The paper details how dog breeding operates in Ireland, key issues and statistics and provides a number of recommendations.
