An Garda Síochána Mayo:
Gardaí out conducting planned searches of a number of properties in Co. Mayo first thing this morning didn’t quite anticipate finding a caged fox cub.
He is a very precious little fellow.
Foxes are wild animals and it is a criminal offence to keep any wild animal in captivity.
We liaised with the local Dog Warden to bring him to safety right away and he was assessed by the vet this morning. The fox is now in the care of an animal rescue centre.
We are currently investigating under the Animal Health and Welfare Act, 2013.
